I Am Fil-Am

I think that a big reason why Filipino-American History Month is a big thing now is because Fil-Ams today have a great pride in their identity. As a Fil-Am who grew up in a small town with little diversity, I would sometimes find it hard to relate to my friends because I did not share the same background as them. Being exposed to more Filipinos and being more aware of the sacrifices Filipinos in the past had to make to get to where we are today has made me more proud of my culture. The Filipino-American community is super inspiring because even though they went through difficult times (i.e. fighting in WW2 and not getting the citizenship they were promised), they still manage to work hard for their dreams and kindhearted to the people they care about.
