Here at FASA, our motto is FASA is FAMILY. As a part of the Filipino community, and alongside our sister organizations throughout Virginia that make up D7, you will be introduced to our culture, our history, our traditions, our celebrations, and our issues. We accept everyone from all walks of life, and welcome them to join us in our learning experience. No matter how old you are, where you come from, or what you do, we will embrace you.
Organization of Young Filipino Americans at the University of Virginia
+++ OYFA@UVA Website
THE BEGINNING: In 1988 Cyn Romero, Brod Bello, and a few other Filipino students wanted to form an organization that stood out from the other ones that already existed. They wanted one that would be more inclusive, not one that isolated itself from outsiders. This new organization was never meant to be exclusive at all. Its members fully welcomed anyone, Filipino or not, who wanted to hang out with them and who could tolerate - or even contribute to - their quirkiness. To say 'I can't join OYFA; I'm not Filipino' was not a good enough reason not to join; we'd reply, 'So?' Moreover, they wanted to be more involved in other parts of the University, not just their own members. Primarily, they wanted the members to have fun, while at the same time learning to get along, work, and have fun. Most important of all, the organization's members would learn something about their own culture and would share it with others. Why? To truly understand Filipinos - and therefore ourselves - we really need to know where we have come from. So, OYFA was born..."
----- OYFA alumni Dr. Ron Labuguen
THE PRESENT: OYFA has not changed much, with one exception: we now have a much larger membership than when it was founded. People are attracted to OYFA because of the closeness of its members. The familial atmosphere keeps OYFAns deeply rooted in the organization and the alumni coming back for more!
Filipino Americans Coming Together at Virginia Commonwealth University
+++ FACT@VCU Website
Filipino Americans Coming Together started in Fall of 1995. What began as simple potlucks grew to be a great organization at Virginia Commonwealth University. It started at Felix Savellano's apartment, right in his living room. Various names were thought of, such as ADOBO (A Dose of Brown Origin). Eventually the word FACT came up, and thus became the acronym it is today. The first set of officers were chosen, which then started plenty of activities, events, and Culture Nights to come. The great thing about FACT was that it did more than just focused on Filipino activities and being around Pinoys and Pinays. They opened the club to anyone and everyone, having members of different nationalities and ethnicities to be apart of this group, to learn about their culture, traditions, and making new friendships that they would take with them even after college. This is how the legacy of FACT began, and since continue to grow having recently celebrated their 10th anniversary with numerous alumni in attendance.

The purposes of FASA include learning about the Philippines and what it means to be a Filipino and Filipino-American. It is also FASA's duty to improve the academic and social environments through service to the school and the surrounding community and promote relations with the Filipino-American Student Associations of other colleges and universities.
