:: THEME ::
The theme of the FIND Spring Conference in 2007 is "Pagbangon ng Bagong Pilipino," which means "Rising of the New Pilipino." The ultimate aspiration is to reach out to as many Pilipinos in America possible. Any individual, with a hint of Pilipino background, is who we will empower to reveal to themselves and to the rest of the world. The new Pilipino is a person with a fundamental perception of who WE are and why WE are the way we are at this moment, not only in the Philippines or in America, but globally.
The sessions are designed like a rose. The roots lead to the stems, which lead to the petals. First, our roots are buried and as we unearth the truth. Together, we as individuals must begin to understand our social responsibilities as people who have the ability to make change. To categorize this, we must understand where we stand in the course of history. Session I or the "Roots" deals with our Pre-Hispanic culture and educates the delegate on our rich society before the coming of the Europeans. This will help us to better understand Session II or the "Stems" which analyzes the problems of the Pilipino from Spanish rule up until the present. Session III or the "Petals" will enlighten us on where we stand as Pilipino students in America and what exactly are the paths we can take to improve our society as a whole.
As the sessions establish our history and culture, the residue of the past will also be emphasized. These residues are the real existing problems of Pilipino today.
"A people that do not know their history cannot fulfill their destiny..."
